The first public Bulletin Board System (BBS) was created in Chicago in 1978 by Ward Christensen and Randy Suess during a major blizzard. Named CBBS (Computerized Bulletin Board System), it allowed computer hobbyists to connect via phone line to share announcements, files, and messages. This project pioneered the digital community spaces, file-sharing protocols, and online discussion forums we still use on the web today.
